The Holy Britannian Empire, a global super-power, has control over most of the world. Japan has been freshly conquered due to an overpowering military might by the Britannian Empire. And thanks to newly-developed robotic weapons known as Knightmare Frames, the job was quite easy.
Japan is now known to the Britannians as 'Area 11' and it's people 'Elevens'. Lelouch Lamperouge is the main character portrayed as a young school boy. He ends up with a strong supernatural power (The power of Geass) that was gifted to him, which he puts to the test against the Holy Britannian Empire. Quite early on in the series you learn that he was once a Britannian Prince, but was exiled into the common people of Japan as a bargaining tool and political gesture...along with his crippled sister, Nunnally. Without going into too much detail, Lelouch plans to destroy the Holy Britannian Empire and will stop at nothing to achieve this.
Conclusion!
This particular anime has, unlike most, has a protagonist that is very intelligent and is portrayed as a genius. The main character, Lelouch, is not your common hero. In fact he is quite far from it and could be considered an evil hero in a sense. His goals are just and noble, but the means to achieve these goals could be considered anything but noble. Lelouch plays with the lives of humans around him like chess pieces. With the exception of a few close friends, he will stop at nothing to achieve his objective. A master of manipulation from every angle and even the viewer will have trouble guessing if he is manipulating or being honest.
So, if you're into futuristic robotic weapons, warfare, intelligent protagonists and supernatural powers...this anime will be for you. The plot is absurdly awesome, the characters are well developed and intriguing and the animation and voice actors can't be faulted. Additionally, it has the best ending from any anime I have seen. All in all, Code Geass is a spectacular anime and definitely worth its weight in gold.
