Death Note

death note title

"The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die". Now throw this inane power into the hands of an egotistical and over achieving student, and you have your protagonist! Now, not dissimilar to the main character of Code Geass, we have a very intelligent student named Light Yagami. After coming into possession of this notebook, Light develops what could only be described as a 'god complex' and is determined to recreate the world into the ideological view that he sees fit.

That's the main idea behind the story and we have a simple but very intricate game of wits. After receiving the notebook, which was dropped into the human realm by a shinigami named Ryuk, Light is quick to put it to the test and develops a keen hobby of killing the filth of the earth. Criminals that have escaped the paws of justice are quickly dealt with by Light and the world is left baffled as to why they are dying so rapidly. And here we introduce our next character named 'L' . Who is very similar to Light, however deems the deaths as murder and an inhumane act, and takes on the case as detective.

Death Note is an exciting psychological battle from beginning to end and, I for one, enjoyed every second of it. We have Light with the power to kill using the Death Note, and 'L' who is the opposition in this game of wits between geniuses. So who will win? Morals are thrown into question and the viewer will always be kept guessing. The characters are well developed, the storyline is amazing and the quality of animation is beautiful too. This has made for one of the best anime I have seen with only a few discrepancies to throw into the mix.

I felt as though the second season began with an unusual character introduction and could have been handled better. And as far as the ending of the story....well I'll let you decide for yourself, if you like the first few episodes, it only gets better.

Conclusion

I recommend watching Death Note purely for the immersive story and entertainment that keeps you guessing. I must say I am a fan of main characters that are geniuses and Death Note does this like no other. It's only 37 episodes, so it's not a lengthy show by any means. Watch it!
